Life With Derelict Buildings
Derelict buildings always intrigue me. I cannot walk/ ride/ run/ skip/ drive past one without a narrative/ question/ thought appearing in my head.
Some may be beautiful ruins of a 18th century castle in the middle of a vast countryside, surrounded by nature and colour, almost giving life back to this building, which now empty, once had a soul and a purpose.
Some may be terraced houses, as seen on the average street, anywhere. Lovely brickwork assembled by people which once may have housed families, creating something special for all those people once involved with the family who once lived there. Empty homes sandwiched in between homes with families, creating a running history there before they may move on, and provide a house for a new family to create their own new history.
Derelict buildings are skeletons. Foundations. With potential to be rejuvenated, and made useful again. Though sadly are often boarded up with wood or metal on the doors and windows - suffocating this skeleton, stopping it for its next phase.
They often house the homeless and squatters, till they get found out. But they also house rats and rodents and bugs.
Life with derelict buildings is life with an unknown history.
